Firmware update for IQOS devices

Updating the firmware of your IQOS is crucial to get the most from your device.

Why is it important to update my device?

Updating firmware is essential to achieve the best performance from your IQOS.

If you use LEVIA sticks, you may need to update your device to achieve optimal flavor.


Why do I need to update the firmware to use LEVIA?

The new firmware version allows the device to distinguish between LEVIA and TEREA sticks, enabling it to adjust its operation accordingly.


IQOS ILUMA devices will work, and heat LEVIA sticks even without a firmware update. However, without the update, the device may not provide the optimal flavor experience.


For the IQOS ILUMA i PRIME and IQOS ILUMA i devices, the optimal flavor of LEVIA sticks is ensured even without a firmware update. However, to achieve the best performance of your IQOS device, it is still recommended to update the firmware for these devices.


On which platform can I perform the update?

With the IQOS app. Download the version that suits you best and log in with your own previously registered user details.


It’s important to know that if you are using an iOS device, iPhone or iPad, you can use the IQOS application through the web application, but you cannot perform the firmware update. For Bluetooth connectivity, the Bluefy Bluetooth browser is required, which can be downloaded from the App Store.


If you have a MAC or Windows-based desktop computer, you can also use the web application to update your device via the Edge and Chrome browsers.

How long does it take to update the firmware?

It takes about 10-15 minutes.

Firmware update steps.

You can easily update the device registered to your own profile via the IQOS app.

1. Sign in to your profile, then connect your device.


2. Once successfully connected, click on the "Devices" tab and select the "Device settings" option. If new firmware is available for your device, click on the "Update Firmware" button.


3. It’s important that your device is at least 25% charged and connected with a USB cable.


4. The firmware update starts. Do not disconnect, do not press any buttons, do not use the device during the update. The application will display a message when the update is complete.


It's important to know that your device flashes red during the update. This is called "SBL mode". Your device is updating, not faulty. After the update, the lights automatically turn white. If it does not, restart your device.

How can I check which firmware version my device has?

You can check the firmware status of your device in the IQOS app.


If you want to determine whether your device has the firmware version required for the optimal flavor of LEVIA, you can easily do so by following these steps:


Press the heater button (or the device button for IQOS ILUMA ONE) five times:

  • If nothing happens: a firmware update is needed.

  • If one of the lower lights flashes five times: a firmware update is needed.

  • If two LEDs on the heater (or four LEDs on the IQOS ILUMA ONE) flash five times: your device has the latest version, and no update is needed.


How many firmware does an IQOS ILUMA have? Do I need to update all of them?

The IQOS ILUMA PRIME, IQOS ILUMA and IQOS ILUMA ONE are operated by multiple firmware. Each firmware must be updated for the device to function properly. Never complete the update early, always wait until all firmware updates are complete. The application will continuously indicate how many updates are still to be done.
